Talend 6 was released in September 2015 and with it come a number of new and important features and updates, including product name changes.

One of the most significant features introduced in Talend 6.x is availability of Spark and Spark streaming components (over 100 of them). This introduces paradigm shift for building big data jobs, expanding the possibilities way beyond batch jobs using Map Reduce and Tez. With Spark and Spark streaming, Talend Big Data is now real time, to the extent that micro-batching approximates to real time.

Other new facts about Talend 6 include

  • Comes with a new, modernized look-and-feel to the Studio user interface and features upgrades to the core platform as well (Eclipse 4-based).

  • Delivers an end-to-end Internet of Things integration platform combining IoT connectivity (MQTT, AMQP); high-speed, reliable messaging (Apache Kafka, Amazon Kinesis, Talend ESB); and high-speed big data integration (Spark).

  • Introduces Continuous Delivery data integration by using a slightly different job generation model that leverages Maven and Jenkins
  • Renames almost all Talend products, and introduces two new product offerings, Talend Data Fabric and Talend Real-Time Big Data Platform.
